Welcome! One and all to the 2011-2012 school year!

Lots of new and cool stuff is in store for the Mac Lab Media team, Mac Lab Mentors, and every other maclab-ian.

A couple things have happened over summer:

  1. 2/3 of last years team has graduated (Kyle and Chris.) BUT Kyle will be volunteering a LOT of his time to the Mac Lab this semester. Chris went off to Berkeley, what a loser 😉 (everyone go wish him good luck!) In response to this, we’ve recruited Vincent to help, but that’s not enough to fulfill the projects we will have to complete. If you’re interested, then tell Philip, Vincent, or Kyle; or just comment on this post.
  2. A wall was torn down, in case you haven’t noticed. Our plan for this newly acquired space is to use it as a meeting place for Mac Lab Media to plan out and brainstorm ideas, and have a black, white, and (hopefully) a green screen in one corner so we can take pictures as needed and record videos in front of the green screen.
  3. We moved the computers and tables around so that we have 10x more walking and elbow room. You’re welcome newcomers, you’ll never have to worry about elbowing a kid in the back of the head like us vets/alumnus. Lucky…
  4. Philip, Christian, and Kyle have been following Freddiew (blocked at school) and Corridor Digital (blocked at school) and have been inspired (FINALLY) to start learning visual effects. we’re going to learn it and apply Skocko’s new way of grading to it as we learn. If you want to learn along side us, tell one of us or just comment on this post. Trust me, it’s more fun than it is work.
I’m sure there’s more, but I can’t remember.
Again, good luck and have fun this year! It’s sure to be fantastic.
  1. I feel the need to mention that just a green screen won’t quite cut it. In order to key properly, your going to need good lighting, also you will want a blue screen, because some things just dont key well on green. Also I will be available to help in anyway you guys need.

    • We still have our 4 lights. One bulb is broken, but we’ll get that replaced. That should help…right?
And thanks! We’ll probably need it

  2. I find it weird I dont have an account on this blog yet I’m mentioned as a member ;]

    • You don’t need to post yet, so you don’t need to have an account ;] once this year is over you will be an admin.

  3. why don’t I need to post yet?

  4. I’m definitely going to try to be part of the team this year. Hopefully we can make this years Mac Lab Media the best.

I think that Vincent deserves an account.

Also, Danny has a point about the lights. I wouldn’t be surprised if the lights that we have now aren’t powerful enough to sufficiently illuminate an entire person. But I’m confident that you guys will figure something out.

I see you guys want to do more VFX. If you haven’t checked it out,
